About michelle

Michelle Martinez is a writer and filmmaker based in New Jersey. Her diverse professional background ranges from media production (film, TV, commercial), video editing for social, and working with brands for live event activations. Michelle’s directorial work ranges from short documentaries to narrative stories such as her award-winning coming-of-age drama Hit Me Up and short documentary Going Natural. Michelle’s work is deeply influenced by her values of family, friendship, personal development, consciousness, and empathy.

Michelle is a first generation Dominican-American and a New Jersey native. Upon graduating from Montclair State University with a BFA in Filmmaking, Michelle received an Excellence in Directing Award from the film department. She has received numerous directing awards from film festivals, and her talent has been recognized by film fellowships such as Creative Mind Group in Cannes (2018) and Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today (2023). When she’s not in creator mode, Michelle likes to read, travel, and host get-togethers. It brings her joy to connect with others through shared passions.
